WHO ARE YOU?

April is Jazz History and National Abuse Prevention Month

This may look like a personal plug but it's not!  The  mission of promoting women musicians will be well served by the publication of my paper "Conscious Inclusion of Women Musicians" that was accepted to be published and presented at the British & American Studies (BAS) 2012 Conference May 17-19, 2012, in Timisoara, Romania. As a Doctoral candidate at Northcentral University, in my first year, being published in a foreign country can lead to greater things for WIJSF and for me! You may donate to my travel fund here: www.usaprojects.org/user/joancartwright7165

Pianist - Composer - Educator

JoAnne Brackeen

In 1983, JoAnne Brackeen recorded with Freddie Hubbard and the Kool Jazz All-Stars on Atlantic Records, in Manhattan. My song "Sweet Return" became the title tune. I must say that JoAnne's scoring of my tune was just phenomenal. She is by far one of the most amazing Jazzwomen I've ever encountered. ~ JOAN CARTWRIGHT

Tuesday, April 3, 2012 @ 4 - 4:30 p.m., Diva JC and Mimi Johnson interview Kathie DeShaw, Founder and Executive Director of United States Artists

Why do artists need USA?

Jobs vs. art.

National research commissioned between 2000 and 2003 validated what many already knew: That most artists working in their chosen fields just couldn't sustain themselves financially — that they needed jobs in restaurants, schools, stores just to make ends meet, leaving little time to create the great works of which they are capable. They needed proper places to work and live and reasonably-priced health insurance. In other words, funding. To join as an artist or supporter, visit this website - www.unitedstatesartists.org
