Stephanie Crawford was born on August 30, in Detroit, Michigan. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Wayne State University and studied Vocal Jazz Theory, Technique, Esthetic, Performance and Craft with jazz luminaries Barry Harris and Frank Foster at the Cultural Jazz Center, New York. She performed on the East Coast at major festivals, special events and jazz clubs. Crawford was the recipient of the prestigious French award "Django D'Or" for Best International Jazz Vocalist, in 1993. From1989 to 1996, Stephanie was Professor of Jazz Vocals at Centre D'Informations Musicales and Institute D'Art, Culture at Perception, in Paris, France. During her tenure, she nurtured and mentored numerous jazz vocalists from the burgeoning French jazz scene, while recording and performing to mesmerized audiences. After an illustrious career in Paris, Stephanie is making inroads in the Bay Area jazz scene. Her new album, The Real Thing is impassioned and reminiscent of famed bebop vocalist Betty Carter.
