Basia
Vocalist Basia Trzetrzelewska is from Jaworzno, Poland. She spent a couple of years in the pop band Matt Bianco, an offshoot of Blue Rondo a la Turk, before she launched a solo career in 1987. With the musical assistance of Matt Bianco's Danny White, Basia developed a subtle cocktail jazz-pop which was first showcased on her 1987 debut album, Time and Tide. Supported by the singles "New Day for You" and "Time and Tide," the record became a hit in Europe and America, where the album went platinum. Her second record, 1990's London Warsaw New York, was just as successful, but her third album, 1994's Sweetest Illusion, failed to find an audience. Flutist, composer, arranger, producer, educator, business owner, Andrea Brachfeld, is a graduate of The High School of Music and Art and Manhattan School of Music. Over these past 30 years she has recorded more than a dozen CD's with many artists including, Wayne Wallace, Bobby Carcasses, Africando, Oscar Hernandez (Spanish Harlem Orchestra) and Timbalaye. Her breakthrough performance as the flutist for the popular Latin band Charanga '76, catapulted her into Salsa history and fame as the first female flutist to play this music in the United States. While in high school she received the "Louis Armstrong Award for Outstanding Student" from Jazz Interactions . Study with Hubert Laws, Jimmy Heath, and Mike Longo helped her develop her own style. Downbeat magazine referred to Andrea as "one of the finest jazz flutists around." She has twice been the recipient of the Latin New York Music Award as a flutist.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Hey Rim started playing piano at the early age of four, and by nine was giving her first public performances in classical music. By seventeen she had received numerous awards and significant recognition for her powerful and creative interpretation of the classics: from Bach to Chopin to Liszt. During this period, Hey Rim, gifted with perfect pitch, began learning music by ear. Deeply influenced by the dazzling improvisation of Oscar Peterson, Hey Rim decided to embark on a musical path that would both support her new found passion for jazz, and build upon her already formidable classical training.
In September of 1997, Hey Rim came to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, to pursue her contemporary music education. Studying at the college gave her the opportunity to learn from jazz greats such as JoAnne Brackeen, Laszlo Gardony and Ray Santisi. While a student at Berklee, she received the piano department's prestigious "Piano Chair" award for jazz performance. After completing her Bachelor’s degree (Summa Cum Laude) in 2001, Hey Rim continued her studies, and received a Master’s degree (Academic Honors) in Contemporary Improvisation from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in 2004. While at the conservatory, she studied with Ran Blake, George Garzone and Michael Cain, who’s influence opened her eyes to new and fascinating areas of music performance: from avant-garde to world music.
Hey Rim is an active performer both nationally and internationally. She performs regularly with her band and as a soloist in the New England and New York areas. Notable shows include an appearance at the Lincoln Center, New York, the Jazz Informance in Chesapeake, Virginia, and the International Association for Jazz Education in Toronto, Canada. She has also performed at some of Asia’s top jazz venues in Korea and Japan, including the main stage of the inaugural Jarasum International Jazz Festival where she was billed alongside such luminaries as Dennis Chambers, Chris Minh Doky and Hiram Bullock.
In 2003, Hey Rim released her self-titled CD Hey Rim Jeon & Friends on the Take Note Music (TNM) label, which reached CD Baby’s 40 top selling jazz albums list. Her original trio provides the backdrop for this 12-song compilation of originals and jazz standards. In May of 2007, Hey Rim released Alone, a compilation of nine solo piano compositions on the Akasaka Kougei Japanese label. Her current project, Mona Liza Puzzle, includes performances by Herbie Hancock’s rhythm section; Terri Lyne Carrington, James Genus and Richie Barshay, Also featured is virtuosic saxophonist Dave Liebman. Hey Rim also recently collaborated with popular Vietnamese singer Doan Trang. Doan Trang’s new album “Negative Proof” (Am Ban), which features an original composition by Hey Rim, won the Golden Prize in Vietnam in 2007.
TERRI LYNE CARRINGTON
Drummer, composer, producer and clinician, Terri Lyne Carrington, was born August 4, 1965, in Medford, Massachusetts. After an extensive touring career of over 20 years with luminaries like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Al Jarreau, Stan Getz, David Sanborn, Joe Sample, Cassandra Wilson, Clark Terry, Dianne Reeves and more, she recently returned to her hometown where she was appointed professor at her alma mater, Berklee College of Music. Terri Lyne also received an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music in 2003. After studying under full scholarship at Berklee, with the encouragement of her mentor, Jack DeJohnette, Terri Lyne moved to New York in 1983.
For 5 years she was a much in-demand musician, working with James Moody, Lester Bowie, Pharoah Sanders, and others. In the late 80's she relocated to Los Angeles, where she gained recognition on late night TV as the house drummer for the "Arsenio Hall Show," then again in the late 90's as the drummer on the Quincy Jones late night TV show, "VIBE," hosted by Sinbad.
In 1989, Ms. Carrington released a Grammy nominated debut CD entitled "Real Life Story," which featured Carlos Santana, Grover Washington Jr., Dianne Reeves, Wayne Shorter, Patrice Rushen, Gerald Albright, John Scofield, Robert Irving III, Greg Osby, Don Alias and Hiram Bullock. Other solo CDs include 2002’s "Jazz is a Spirit," which features Herbie Hancock, Gary Thomas, Wallace Roney, Terence Blanchard, Kevin Eubanks, and Bob Hurst, and 2004's "Structure," a cooperative group which features Adam Rogers, Jimmy Haslip and Greg Osby. Both CDs were released on the Europe-based ACT Music label, and enjoyed considerable media attention and critical acclaim in the European and Japanese markets.
Her production collaborations with artists such as Gino Vannelli, Peabo Bryson, Dianne Reeves, Siedah Garrett, Marilyn Scott have produced notable works as well, including a special song commissioned by the Atlanta Committee for the 1996 Olympic Games, "Always Reach for Your Dreams," (featuring Peabo Bryson), and her production of the Dianne Reeves Grammy-nominated CD, “That Day," which hovered at the top of the music charts for many months. Terri Lyne has played on many recordings throughout the 80's and 90's thru today. Notable examples of her stellar work include Herbie Hancock's Grammy winning CD "Gershwin's World" where she played alongside Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder. She has toured with each of Mr. Hancock's musical configurations (from electric to acoustic) over the last 10 years and is featured on his "Future2Future" DVD.
After a hiatus from the U.S. recording scene as a solo recording artist, in 2008 Terri Lyne will be returning with "More To Say... (Real Life Story: NextGen)." She performs with friends and colleagues with whom she has been working with in her 20-year-plus career. Joining Carrington for the meticulously produced More to Say is an impressive all-star cast of jazz and contemporary jazz instrumentalists, including George Duke, Robert Irving III (who also serves as co-producer), Everette Harp, Jimmy Haslip, Greg Phillingaines, Gregoire Maret, Christian McBride, Danilo Perez, Patrice Rushen, Chuck Loeb, Tineke Postma, Ray Fuller, Dwight Sills, Anthony Wilson, Kirk Whalum and a special appearance by her dad, Sonny Carrington, on tenor. In addition, Carrington collaborates with esteemed vocalist Nancy Wilson for the song, “Imagine This.”

Multi-instrumentalist/Composer/Singer
Born in Glen Cove, New York where at an early age Kimj fell in love with the Alto sax. One thing that sets her apart from many others is the fact that she has never been formally trained and has learned to play by ear in Grammer School.
Kimj has been playing in as many venues as possible ever since.
Kimj is working on original compositions as well as re-arranging Contemporary Jazz pieces and her favorite Jazz Standards.
She is also featured sax soloist on Carolyn Victorians " He's my DJ". on POJI Records.
Kimj has performed throughout New York City at CeCe's, Alphabet City, The Knitting Factory, The Cutting Room. In Brooklyn at 2 Steps Down, Comfort Zone. In her hometown at The Glen Cove Musicfest.

Kimj plays the sax with so much intimacy; she approaches her songs with love and with careful interpretation. Kimj is a true breath of fresh air. With her entirely real come as you are attitude, a heartfelt voice and her undeniably positive spirit, Kimj is proving you don't have play what's popular to make great music that is heard and appreciated.

and playing. Her Afro-American heritage rooted in jazz and Latin, afro- Cuban

to mention her musical prowess of playing ten different instruments. All
of this is molded into a musical Masala that speaks to her personality:
fun and infectious, bold at times, reflective and always from the heart.
Kimj showcases her wide
musical background by her re-arranging Cole Porter's I've got
you under my skin" singing behind the notes and playing a very sexy
piano, to the very soulful instrumentation of her tenor sax bouncing
on Grover Washington's "Mr. Magic" to a reflective Corinne
Bailey's " Like a star" she plays with so much intimacy; you can
feel the love that exudes from within her ( almost to the point of
indecency) to a very jazzy jazz standard " My Funny Valentine"
on EWI (electric wind instrument). Kimj does not water down
the integrity of the music. She plays. Nowhere is this more evident then
watching her live move from one instrument to the next with so much ease. Kimj "brings it'! Kimj loves performing
because she loves the music that she plays. To her the music she plays is
like the air she breaths something she can't live without. You won't want to miss
